‘Forbes’ profiles Gavin’s newest project!
FORBES MAGAZINE takes a look at Gavin’s newest partnership with Bill Price, Lutum Wines, and discusses Gavin’s signature winemaking style.
“A partnership between stealth wine magnate Bill Price (Kistler, Kosta Browne) and emerging winemaking star Gavin Chanin (recognized as one of Forbes’ “30 Under 30″ in 2011), Lutum arose from a meeting at an “In Pursuit of Balance” tasting, a winemaker group dedicated to dialing back the alcohol and richness levels that have too often turned California Pinot Noirs into fruit bombs. Price was impressed by the wines Chanin, then 27 and an alumnus of Santa Barbara’s wonderful Au Bon Climat, was making for his tiny Chanin Wine Company label. “I thought the wine had a very unique style,” says Price, “less extracted, and lower in alcohol than some of the Pinot Noirs I produce. But there was also a remarkable clarity of flavor and a brilliance to the wine.”
