Decanter Magazine on Chanin Wine Company
It was huge to be published in Decanter Magazine as an emerging name from Santa Barbara. Stephen Brook, the author of this piece, especially liked our 2008 Bien Nacido Chardonnay, which was labeled a “Best Buy” with 4 of 5 stars. He described the wine as being: “Discreet, racy lemony nose. Creamy, Spicy and tight. Stylish but adolescent. Drink: 2012-2017. Alcohol: 13%”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves and we are especially happy that they are encouraging people to age the wine by saying it should be opened between 2012-2017.
From the Article:
“There’s a new generation of young winemakers in Santa Barbara, such as Gavin Chanin, in his mid-twenties. An acolyte of Jim Clendenen at Au Bon Climat, he also worked in South Africa and New Zealand before creating his own label in 2007, sourcing grapes from some of the region’s best-known vineyards. Their common feature is low alcohol–12-13.6%. Both the Chardonnays and Pinots have life and finesse although, in their youth, they are aromatically subdued.”
