Vinous called our 2019 vintage ‘a beautiful set of wines’ by Gavin

This is a beautiful set of 2019s from Gavin Chanin. The wines are understated yet deep, with fabulous expression of site. Chanin describes 2019 as a mostly cool year, but with two micro heat events towards the end of the season that helped push ripeness. Both the Chardonnays and Pinots are marked by a real sense of translucent finesse that is hard to capture with words. The Pinots in particular are quite aromatic, with a touch of stem influence that is very nicely balanced.

94 Points- 2019 ‘Los Alamos Vineyard’ Chardonnay

The 2019 Chardonnay Los Alamos Vineyard is a brilliant wine. Freshly cut flowers, mint, almond, lemon peel and light tropical notes all grace the Los Alamos Chardonnay. A wine of transparency and nuance, the 2019 is positively stellar. Bright saline notes extend the finish effortlessly. Superb.

95 Points- 2019 ‘Bien Nacido Vineyard’ Chardonnay

Gavin Chanin’s 2019 Chardonnay Bien Nacido Vineyard is magnificent. Rich, ample and powerful, the 2019 marries textural intensity with energy. Lemon peel, marzipan, mint and white flowers are beautifully delineated. I especially admire the substantial finish, and all of its presence.

94 Points- 2019 ‘Sanford & Benedict Vineyard’ Chardonnay

The 2019 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict emerges from Block T15, one of the original parcels planted in 1971. It is a bright, focused jewel of a wine. Crushed rocks, mint, white pepper, and lemon peel all race out of the glass. The 2019 is a bundle of energy. Give it a few years to come together.

92 Points- 2019 ‘Los Alamos Vineyard’ Pinot Noir

The 2019 Pinot Noir Los Alamos Vineyard is laced with the essence of crushed red berry fruit, blood orange, cinnamon and mint. Readers will find an airy, gracious Pinot built on a whole range of floral and savory accents. The 15% whole clusters are expertly judged. Silky and beautifully perfumed, the Los Alamos Pinot is pure seduction..

93 Points- 2019 ‘Bien Nacido Vineyard’ Pinot Noir

The 2019 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard opens with beguiling aromatics. Spicebox, blood orange, mint, orange peel and a dollop of whole cluster savoriness add nuance. Gracious and medium in body, the 2019 is all class. Interestingly, the Bien Nacido Pinot is quite a bit more reticent than the Chardonnay.

94 Points- 2019 ‘Schock Family Vineyard’ Pinot Noir

The 2019 Pinot Noir Schock Family Vineyard emerges from a site just outside the eastern edge of the Sta. Rita Hills on sand that is also dry farmed. Tasted next to Gavin Chanin’s other wines, the Schock Pinot is ample and burly, with big tannins and a bit more heft than Chanin fans are likely to expect. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, and smoke infuse the 2019 with tons of character. This virile Pinot impressive.

94 Points- 2019 Sanford & Benedict Vineyard Pinot Noir

The 2019 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is classy, elegant, and nuanced. Crushed flowers, red/purplish berry fruit, mint, spice, and blood orange take shape in the glass, all framed by silky tannins that lend tons of finesse. The Chanin S&B Pinot is a blend of four blocks off the property.

93 Points- 2019 Zotovich Vineyard Pinot Noir

The 2019 Pinot Noir Zotovich Vineyard is gorgeous. Pliant and creamy, with striking aromatics, the Zotovich Pinot is a real charmer. Orange peel, mint, sweet red cherry, rose petal and exotic spice nuances are all laced together in this mid-weight, sensual Pinot from Gavin’s Ch
