2015 Chanin Chardonnay Bien Nacido Vineyard- 92 Points

“The 2015 Chardonnay Bien Nacido Vineyard is racy and ultra-fresh, with notes of citrus, salt block, white peach and hints of spice in its medium-bodied, surprisingly concentrated and textured personality. It’s a beautiful Chardonnay that’s going to hit prime time in another year (or so) and keep for a decade or more. This cuvée was barrel fermented and spent 15 months in 20% new French oak.”

2015 Chanin Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard – 91+

“Light red fruits, spice, iodine, dried herbs and lots of salinity emerge from the 2015 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard, and it’s lightly textured, elegant and silky on the palate, with high quality, present tannin. Mostly destemmed (there’s 35% stems) and aged 15 months in 20% new French oak, it needs 2-3 years of bottle age to really shows at its best and should keep nicely for a decade. During my visit, Gavin poured this wine to show what he considered to be a classic expression of the vintage.”

2015 Chanin Chardonnay Los Alamos Vineyard – 90 Points

“I love the wines from this guy and the 2015 Chardonnay Los Alamos Vineyard is another terrific wine. Citrus blossom, white grapefruit and salty minerality all emerge from the glass and build in a medium-bodied, supple, racy palate with a long finish. It’s a terrific example of Santa Barbara County Chardonnay that won’t break the beak.”

2015 Chanin Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict Vineyard – 93 Points

“The 2015 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict Vineyard was barrel fermented and saw 14 months in 20% new French oak. Its lighter gold color leads to a beautiful bouquet of buttered citrus, spice, crushed rocks, and toasted bread. Beautifully layered on the palate, with bright, racy acidity and a clean finish, it’s going to reward 2-3 years of cellaring and keep for a decade or more.”

2015 Chanin Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard – 90 Points

“The 2015 Pinot Noir Sanford & Benedict Vineyard comes from a terrific site on the southern edge of the Sta. Rita hills and saw 45% stems and 14 months in 15% new French oak. It offers a sweet nose of framboise, spice, forest floor and hints of flowers. This gives way to a charming, supple, downright pretty 2015 that has light tannin and a clean finish.”
